Prohibition on import of gold of Russian origin

Importers and their agents are advised that from 25 July 2022 all imports of gold of Russian origin is prohibited.
All gold classified as follows under the Working Tariff of New Zealand with country of origin Russia becomes a prohibited import and may be seized:
- 71.08
- 7114.19.09
- 7118.90.00.01K
- 7118.90.00.09E
This latest prohibition is part of New Zealand’s response to Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine.
Importers, exporters and their agents are reminded to be aware of the import and export restrictions in place under the Russia Sanctions Act 2022 by regularly checking the MFAT webpage dedicated to this, and checking the Register.
Exporters and their agents must also comply with the export prohibition on all goods to Russia and Belarus for specific purposes under the Export Controls (Export Prohibition to Specified Places) Notice 2022 (No 2).
