Decrease in the Petroleum or Engine Fuel Monitoring Levy (PEFML) on 1 July 2024

The PEFML decreased on 1 July 2024 to 0.69 cents per litre (from the existing rate of 0.72 cents per litre).


The levy applies to petroleum or engine fuel that is specified in the Excise and Excise-equivalent Duties Table as:

  • motor spirit
  • diesel
  • biodiesel
  • ethyl alcohol (under the heading Fuels in Part A or B of the Table).

The Gazette Notice that sets out this new levy rate is the Notification of Levy Rates Under the Energy (Petrol, Engine Fuel, and Gas) Levy Regulations 2017 Notice 2024, which was gazetted on 31 May 2024.

Fuel removed from a licensed manufacturing area or imported after midnight on 30 June 2024 is subject to the new rate.
