Kiwi man jailed for importing meth and firearm possession

The sentencing of a 33-year-old New Zealand man proves the quantity doesn’t matter when it comes to importing drugs.
Teariki Kura appeared in the Christchurch District Court yesterday, and was sentenced to four years and five months jail for importing just under 28 grams of methamphetamine.
His sentence also includes six months for possession of a firearm (without legal authority).
On 31 August 2016, Customs officers intercepted a package at the International Mail Centre, sent from Mexico to Kura's address in Christchurch. It was found to contain 27.8 grams of methamphetamine.
Customs' investigators with the support of New Zealand Police executed a search warrant at his home on 14 September 2016 and located two sets of scales, a live shotgun shell, and a .303 rifle.
Customs Investigations Manager, Bruce Berry says quick action from our frontline officers and investigators, as well as our partnership with Police, has once again proven successful.
"Importing any amount of drugs via the dark net or by any other means is a serious offence, which carries significant consequences," says Mr Berry.
